Privacy Policy for Vowed

Vowed ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information when you use the Vowed mobile application (the "App").

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

• Account information: your name and email address when you sign up.
• Photos ("proof photos"): when you complete a goal or duel, you take a photo using your device's camera to serve as proof. These photos are stored and may be shown to other users (see Section 3, "Jury Review").
• Usage data: your goals, duels, coin balances, jury votes, and messages exchanged with our AI Coach.
• Push notification token: a device identifier used solely to send you app notifications (reminders, jury decisions, etc.). You can disable this at any time in your device settings.
• Language preference: used to match you with jury tasks and AI Coach conversations in your preferred language.

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, or browsing history.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To operate core app features: goal tracking, coin staking, duels, and jury review.
• To power our AI Coach feature, which uses Anthropic's Claude API to generate personalized suggestions based on the messages you send it.
• To automatically screen proof photos for inappropriate content before they are shown to other users (see Section 3).
• To send you push notifications about reminders, jury decisions, and account status.
• To enforce our Terms of Service, including our reporting and account restriction system.

3. Jury Review and Photo Visibility

Vowed's core feature relies on peer review: when you submit a proof photo, it may be shown to a small number of other Vowed users (the "jury") who are randomly selected to vote on whether your proof is legitimate. Your goal description is shown alongside the photo, but your name and email are not shown to jurors.

Before a photo is shown to any juror, it is automatically analyzed by Google Cloud Vision API (a third-party image moderation service) to detect inappropriate content (e.g. nudity or graphic violence). Photos flagged as inappropriate are automatically rejected and are not shown to jurors. This automated check is a safety measure, not a guarantee — please only submit photos that comply with our Terms of Service.

Users can report inappropriate photos. Accounts that receive multiple reports on the same content may be temporarily banned. See our Terms of Service for details.

Public Challenges

If you choose to join a Public Challenge, you may optionally opt in to share your proof photos with other participants in that challenge. This is entirely voluntary and can be turned on or off at any time from your goal details screen. If you do not opt in, your photos remain private and are only visible to you, the jury reviewing your proof, and admins.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Vowed. Each processes data under its own privacy policy:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage.
• Anthropic (Claude API) — powers the AI Coach feature; messages you send to the AI Coach are processed by Anthropic to generate responses.
• Google Cloud Vision API — automated content moderation of proof photos, as described in Section 3.
• Expo — push notification delivery.

5. Data Retention and Account Deletion

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may permanently delete your account at any time from the Profile screen. Deleting your account removes your profile, goals, duels, jury votes, AI Coach conversation history, and proof photos from our systems. This action is irreversible.

6. Virtual Currency

Vowed uses a virtual, in-app currency ("coins"). Coins currently have no real-world monetary value and cannot be exchanged for cash. If a real-money redemption feature is introduced in the future, this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service will be updated accordingly, and you will be notified.

7. Children's Privacy

Vowed is not directed at children under 17. We do not knowingly collect information from users under this age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the email below so we can remove it.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can exercise most of these rights directly in the app (e.g. via Delete Account), or by contacting us using the details below.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
